New Delhi, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : Former Vice President Hamid Ansari is facing backlash from BJP leaders for his recent comments on communalism and religious freedom. They argue that his statements are irresponsible and threaten to divide the nation.
BJP MLA Ram Kadam emphasized that India’s eternal tradition of “Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah” promotes harmony. He expressed concern that when someone of Ansari’s stature makes such political remarks, it raises questions about the dignity of his former constitutional role. “No one has the right to hurt the sentiments of the majority community,” he stated.
Responding to Ansari’s comments on Hindu nationalism, BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal called for strong condemnation. He suggested that Ansari’s remarks appear to be driven by a personal agenda, which he has previously discussed. Khandelwal noted that Ansari has forgotten the respect associated with holding a constitutional office, suggesting that his statements reveal his true character.
BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdev warned that Ansari often expresses hostility towards Hindus, urging caution against such individuals. He criticized the Congress party for appointing someone he claims is linked to divisive groups.
Shahnawaz Hussain, another BJP leader, pointed out that despite being elected Vice President twice, Ansari continues to express grievances against the country. He argued that the current state of Muslims in India is better than in many other countries, stating that no friend is better than a Hindu and no leader better than Prime Minister Modi. He asserted that India is progressing towards development without unrest, urging Ansari to support this journey.
BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal accused Ansari of engaging in anti-national activities throughout his life. He recalled incidents from Ansari’s tenure as ambassador to Iran, questioning the circumstances surrounding the capture of Indian spies.
Anil Rajbhar, a minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, claimed that Ansari is filled with a “terrorist mentality” and often makes statements that make the country uncomfortable. He insisted that Ansari should respect the nation that elevated him to the Vice Presidency.
The BJP’s strong reactions reflect ongoing tensions surrounding issues of communalism and national identity in India.
