Chennai, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : In Chennai, Tamil Nadu, liquor enthusiasts will soon find a wider selection of their preferred brands at TASMAC outlets. The state-owned retailer is implementing a demand-based stock supply system starting Monday, aimed at improving customer satisfaction.
This new approach marks the end of the previous uniform distribution system established under the TVK government. Under the revised system, each outlet will receive liquor stock based on sales patterns and local demand.
TASMAC operates approximately 4,000 liquor stores across Tamil Nadu. Previously, the corporation sourced brandy, whiskey, and other spirits from 11 companies, while beer was procured from seven manufacturers. However, after taking office, the TVK government mandated equal purchases from all manufacturers, making their products available for sale. This policy, which began on July 20, resulted in an even distribution of stock among TASMAC outlets statewide.
Reports indicate that this uniform system led to challenges at various stores, as local demand varied significantly. Customers frequently complained that their favorite brands were often unavailable, while less popular bottles accumulated on shelves and in warehouses.
In response to this discrepancy between supply and customer preferences, TASMAC’s management has reevaluated its procurement and distribution processes. District managers are now directed to assess the needs of their outlets before submitting stock requests.
The previous policy of equal distribution among all liquor companies will be discontinued. TASMAC’s managing director has instructed senior regional managers, district managers, and warehouse managers to adhere to this updated directive.
Officials responsible for supply will now consider sales performance, customer preferences, and recorded demand at each outlet before dispatching products. This initiative aims to reduce the accumulation of unsold stock in stores and warehouses.
The goal is to ensure that popular varieties and brands are restocked according to local demand. Authorities anticipate that this change will enhance stock management, decrease unnecessary inventory, and make the retail distribution network more responsive to customer needs.
The revised system will be monitored through sales and inventory records to ensure that supply aligns with demand across TASMAC stores in Tamil Nadu.
