Beijing, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to embark on a three-day state visit to the United States this week, where he will engage in discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump. The Chinese government confirmed that Xi will be in the U.S. from September 23 to 25.
Guo Jiakun, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, stated that Xi and Trump will have in-depth discussions on significant issues concerning China-U.S. relations, as well as global peace and development. He emphasized that China aims to enhance constructive strategic stability in their relationship, strengthen dialogue and cooperation, and manage differences appropriately.
The U.S. has already indicated that this meeting between the leaders of the world’s two largest economies is imminent. Observers view this meeting as an opportunity to ease ongoing tensions related to trade, technology, and broader strategic concerns.
An American official noted that Trump will personally welcome Xi upon his arrival at Joint Base Andrews on Wednesday. The main discussions between the two leaders are expected to take place on Thursday. Notably, during Trump’s visit to China in May, he was greeted by the Chinese Vice President upon his arrival.
On Sunday, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that he plans to discuss nearly every issue with Xi. Among the key topics will be the ongoing trade tensions between the two nations. Although a temporary agreement on tariffs has been in place for nearly a year, a permanent trade deal has yet to be reached.
Additionally, strategic and military tensions regarding Taiwan are likely to be significant points of discussion. Taiwan has long been a sensitive issue in U.S.-China relations, alongside trade and technological competition.
