
Rampur, June 23: In a significant operation in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district, police engaged in a shootout with alleged cow smugglers. According to police reports, two suspects on a motorcycle without a license plate attempted to flee upon noticing a police team conducting checks near the Pilakhar Dam. When cornered, the suspects fired at the police, prompting a retaliatory response that resulted in one suspect being shot in the leg.
The injured suspect has been identified as Bhura, a resident of Bhaisodi village in Milak, while his accomplice, Mukim, was apprehended at the scene. Authorities recovered a firearm, cartridges, the unregistered motorcycle, and tools used for cow slaughter from their possession.
Police stated that Bhura has a lengthy criminal record, including charges related to cow smuggling, gang activity, narcotics, the Arms Act, and attempted murder. Both suspects are facing legal action at the Kemri police station, and the injured suspect has been sent to CHC Bilaspur for treatment. Investigations are ongoing, with police seizing the recovered items for further action.
Anurag Singh, the Additional Superintendent of Police in Rampur, confirmed that the police attempted to stop the motorcycle when the suspects opened fire. In self-defense, the police returned fire, injuring one suspect and capturing the other. The operation resulted in the recovery of a motorcycle, a firearm, and tools associated with cow smuggling.
In a separate incident in Bulandshahr, Shivam Saini, accused of murdering Manish Saini, was also arrested following an encounter. The murder allegedly stemmed from a minor dispute during a drinking party. Shivam was shot in the leg during an encounter with police in Jahangirabad. An illegal pistol and cartridges were seized from him.
CO Shashank Srivastava reported that Shivam was arrested based on a tip-off. He indicated that he had hidden the weapon in the forest. During the police operation to recover the pistol, Shivam fired at the police team with a loaded gun, leading to a return of fire that injured him. The police recovered an illegal pistol, four live cartridges, and one spent cartridge from the scene. Legal proceedings are underway.
