New Delhi, August 20: Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have sharply criticized the Congress Working Committee (CWC) for its decision to sing only two verses of the national song ‘Vande Mataram.’ They allege that the Congress party has a history of divisive politics and is engaging in appeasement.
Former Union Minister and BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi condemned the CWC’s decision, labeling it as an act of appeasement and warning that the party will face political backlash. In an interview with a news agency, Naqvi stated that Congress’s disregard for ‘Vande Mataram’ is not a coincidence but a communal tactic that could lead to the party’s downfall. He accused Congress of fragmenting the national song to appease figures like Mohammad Ali Jinnah and claimed that Congress members are attempting to justify this action.
BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma from Bhopal accused Congress of practicing politics akin to the Muslim League. He urged senior Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi to recognize that their fight is with the BJP, not against the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ or against Hindus and Lord Ram. Sharma emphasized that there is no difference between Congress’s ideology and that of Jinnah.
He recalled that Congress had previously accepted only two verses of ‘Vande Mataram’ under pressure from Jinnah when the Muslim League was dominant. While Jinnah has passed away and the Muslim League has dissolved, Sharma asserted that the fear of the Muslim League still lingers within Congress.
Sharma also pointed out that the bill for ‘Vande Mataram’ has been passed and is now law. He warned that disrespecting the national song could lead to imprisonment for Congress members.
BJP leader and former MP Brijbhushan Sharan Singh remarked that Congress consistently acts in ways that hurt the sentiments of the majority population. He stated that Congress needs to reflect on its actions, which have led to its current diminished status despite being the largest and oldest party.
In Madhya Pradesh, Minister Vishwas Sarang stated, “Congress has divided this country and has also divided ‘Vande Mataram.’ This sin has been committed by leaders like Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi. Just four days ago, Sonia Gandhi disrespected ‘Vande Mataram.’ You talk about dividing the nation while also dividing the national song.”
Sarang questioned whether Sonia Gandhi understands the significance of ‘Vande Mataram’ and lamented that Rahul Gandhi fails to grasp the purity of the national song. He deemed the decision unfortunate.
