New Delhi, February 26: Dr. Preeti Adani, Chairperson of the Adani Foundation, stated on Thursday that no country in history has achieved sustainable development while excluding half its population from economic activities. She emphasized the need to recognize the untapped potential of women, drawing lessons from India’s rich history.

Speaking at the ‘Empowered Women, Developed India’ event organized by the Chintan Research Foundation in the national capital, Dr. Adani highlighted the establishment of dairy groups that organize women in rural areas. Currently, over 3,500 rural women are part of these dairy committees, collecting approximately 7.5 million liters of milk annually. This initiative has stabilized their income, enhanced their bargaining power, and, most importantly, boosted their self-confidence.

Dr. Adani pointed out that in many remote rural areas where the Adani Foundation operates, the level of education for girls is alarmingly low. Many women have never attended school, making the prospect of college education seem distant. Therefore, education and skill development are crucial.

She stressed that women’s empowerment should not be limited to financial assistance but must be holistic. It should encompass girls’ education, skill training for young women, financial support, digital literacy, health security, leadership training, and market access for women-led enterprises.

Dr. Adani mentioned that girls who remain in school are less likely to marry at a young age and can pursue further education and employment opportunities. Similarly, young women trained in sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, digital services, renewable energy, and manufacturing can achieve economic independence.

The Adani Foundation’s chairperson also referenced several government initiatives. She noted that the Prime Minister’s Mudra Yojana has provided loans to small entrepreneurs, while the ‘Digital India’ campaign has extended digital facilities to remote areas. Additionally, the Prime Minister’s Ujjwala Yojana has improved the health and dignity of millions of women by providing clean fuel.

Dr. Adani further stated that loans alone are insufficient for women-led enterprises. They require skills, digital knowledge, market access, infrastructure, guidance, and a supportive environment. She expressed confidence that India’s next development narrative will be written by empowered women in schools, training centers, village enterprises, and digital markets.
