Eleven Arrested in Ranchi for Fuel Station and Shop Robberies

Ranchi, March 30: Ranchi police have arrested eleven members of an organized interstate gang involved in six recent robbery incidents across various police station areas in the district.

The arrested criminals were found in possession of a country-made revolver, four live cartridges, six knives, stolen mobile phones, cash, and vehicles used in the crimes. Under the direction of Senior Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ranjan, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) successfully apprehended these criminals based on technical assistance and confidential information.

According to police reports, this gang had instilled fear in areas such as Doranda, Pundag, Ormanjhi, Tatisilwe, and Mesra in recent days. The arrested individuals confessed to robbing fuel stations in Pundag, two stations in the BIT Mesra area, and a Gail CNG pump in Tatisilwe at gunpoint.

Additionally, the gang injured a shopkeeper with a knife during a robbery near a hotel in Ormanjhi. The arrested members include Zaheer alias Khan, Farhan Khan alias Bablu, Sheikh Jimlal, Arsalan Khan, Mohammad Faizan, Soaib Ansari, Shahbaz Salman, Kasif Yusuf, Sheikh Mujammil, and Raja Khan.

Notably, Shahbaz Salman has a lengthy criminal history, with approximately 17 cases of robbery and violations of the Arms Act registered against him at various police stations, including Kanke, Hindpiri, Doranda, and Bariyatu. Zaheer and Farhan also have criminal cases filed against them at the Sikidiri police station.

The SIT raid was led by DSP Amar Kumar Pandey, along with Sanjeev Kumar Besra and Anuj Uraon, under the guidance of rural and urban police superintendents. The team included officers from Ormanjhi, Tatisilwe, Namkum, and Sadar police stations, as well as technical branch experts. Police have seized half a dozen mobile phones, including two iPhones, two scooters, a Pulsar motorcycle, and a car from the suspects. Authorities are now conducting extensive raids to locate other fleeing gang members.
