New Delhi, April 2: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed charges against two individuals in connection with the grenade attack on YouTuber Roger Sandhu’s residence in Jalandhar, Punjab, last year. Among the accused is Pakistani gangster Shahzad Bhatti. The NIA took over the case from the Punjab Police in December 2025.
In the supplementary chargesheet submitted to a special court, Shahzad is identified as a fugitive. The second accused, Deepender Pratap Singh, also known as Deepan Rana, has already been arrested. Both face charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Explosive Substances Act, the Arms Act, and the BNS 2023.
The Punjab Police registered the case in March 2025 and had previously filed charges against nine individuals. The attack occurred on the morning of March 16, 2025, at Roger Sandhu’s home in the village of Raipur Rasoolpur in Jalandhar district.
The NIA’s investigation revealed that Shahzad Bhatti orchestrated the attack from abroad. This incident is linked to a larger terrorist network involved in target killings, recruitment, and arms trafficking in India. Shahzad utilized encrypted communication to plan the attack.
The investigation also indicated that Deepender was a key local accomplice. He provided essential assistance and resources to the attackers and was involved in the use of illegal weapons and explosives. Deepender has already been apprehended.
So far, a total of ten accused have been arrested in this case, while seven, including Shahzad, remain at large. The NIA continues its efforts to locate the fugitives and uncover other terrorist networks connected to this conspiracy.
