
Imphal, April 3: The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, praised the strong traditions, courage, and moral leadership of the ‘Imma community’ during the inauguration of a new maternity facility on Thursday. He highlighted the community’s significant role in shaping society and advocating for justice and peace throughout history. In the Manipuri language, “Imma” translates to ‘mother.’
While inaugurating the Khwairakpam Krishngopal Memorial Building in Ningthoukhong, Bishnupur district, the Governor emphasized that this initiative reflects a collective effort to strengthen healthcare services.
The building was formally dedicated to the Ningthoukhong Community Health Center. Constructed by the Gojendra Foundation, the facility has been handed over to the Manipur government to enhance and expand the center, particularly by establishing a dedicated maternity ward to provide better health services for mothers.
Governor Bhalla stated that this event is not merely the inauguration of a building but a significant step towards fostering hope, respect, and improved care for the community.
He reiterated his admiration for the strength, patience, and moral leadership of the ‘Imma community,’ noting its pivotal role in guiding Manipuri society and advocating for justice, peace, and rights.
The Governor expressed hope that this initiative would inspire other organizations and individuals to contribute to nation-building. He remarked that the building would symbolize compassion, unity, and shared responsibility.
He also commended the Gojendra Foundation for its continuous service to marginalized groups and for constructing the building to support government efforts.
Describing the new maternity ward as crucial, he emphasized that it would provide mothers with better health services, leading to safer motherhood and improved health for future generations.
During the event, representatives from the community health center presented a memorandum to the Governor, highlighting issues related to service and equipment shortages.
The event was attended by Minister of Home, Youth Affairs, and Sports, Govindas Konthoujam, along with legislators from Thanga, Nambol, Oinam, Moirang, Kumbi, and Lilong regions.
