
Kolkata, April 3: In an exciting match of IPL 2026, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) faced off against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Thursday. Abhishek Sharma showcased his batting prowess with a stunning performance, scoring 48 runs off just 21 balls. With this achievement, he became the first Indian batsman to hit a century of sixes in the IPL.
In his innings against KKR, Abhishek hit four boundaries and four sixes, reaching a total of 100 sixes while playing for SRH. He is now the first Indian and the second overall batsman to achieve this milestone, trailing only David Warner, who has hit 143 sixes for SRH.
After losing the toss, SRH opened their innings with a strong partnership between Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. Together, they amassed 82 runs for the first wicket in just 5.4 overs. Abhishek’s explosive batting was complemented by Head, who scored 46 runs off 21 balls, including six fours and three sixes. Their aggressive play helped SRH set a record for the fourth-highest score in the powerplay of IPL history, finishing the first six overs at 84 runs for the loss of one wicket. However, captain Ishan Kishan struggled, contributing only 14 runs off nine balls before getting out.
In their tournament opener, SRH faced a defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), where they scored 201 runs but lost by four wickets as RCB chased down the target in just 15.4 overs. The performance of SRH’s bowlers in that match was disappointing.
