New Delhi, June 18: Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that electronics manufacturing has now become the third largest category of goods exported from India.
The minister praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary approach, which aims to make electronics manufacturing a cornerstone of the country’s economy.
India’s electronics manufacturing industry has reached a record level of ₹13 lakh crore. Initially, the sector aimed to secure a spot among the top 10 export categories. It has since climbed to the 9th, 7th, 5th, 4th, and now the 3rd position.
Vaishnaw inaugurated Jabil’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Ranjangaon, Pune, alongside Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
During the event, the minister emphasized that AI has become a significant force for global development. He stressed the importance of developing the necessary infrastructure within the country to support this growth.
Vaishnaw noted that AI data centers have emerged as major engines of development worldwide. Therefore, under the Prime Minister’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, it is crucial to ensure that key electronic components powering these data centers are manufactured in India.
He remarked that just a few years ago, the idea of electronics manufacturing and exports from India seemed far-fetched. However, Prime Minister Modi’s clear vision and policies have transformed India into a reliable global manufacturing partner.
Jabil’s advanced facility will manufacture essential electronic equipment for data centers in Pune.
According to an official statement, this plant boasts high production capacity and will cater to India’s domestic technical needs while also exporting to various countries.
This new mechanism, which connects electronic components, finished electronic products, and local supply chains, is expected to provide significant social and economic benefits to the country.
The unit is a cutting-edge electronics manufacturing center that specializes in building modern technological infrastructure.
The facility will produce complex products, including AI systems, AI-based data center equipment, 5G technology, high-level networking devices, industrial energy system electronics, and consumer electronics.
With active government support, this project will create job opportunities for approximately 11,000 people locally.
Additionally, it will promote an extensive localization program, linking domestic supply chains and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) directly to the global technological ecosystem.
