Lucknow, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : As the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections approach, discussions between the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress regarding seat distribution are intensifying. SP spokesperson Abbas Haider emphasized that the key issue for the alliance is not the number of seats but the ability to secure victories.
In a recent conversation with a news agency, Haider stated that the primary focus should be on electing candidates with the highest chances of winning. He explained that the final decision on which party or candidate will contest from specific seats will be made by the top leadership of both parties.
Haider pointed out that the party with a stronger presence and organizational strength in a particular constituency should be given the opportunity to field a candidate there. The goal of the alliance, he argued, should not merely be about dividing seats but rather maximizing the chances of winning across as many constituencies as possible.
He advised against placing undue importance on the varying statements made by different leaders regarding seat distribution. Instead, he called for patience, urging stakeholders to wait for the top leadership of both parties to finalize their decisions.
“We should take some time to see what the leadership decides and what formula for seat sharing is implemented on the ground,” Haider remarked. He reiterated that the likelihood of a candidate’s victory is more crucial than the number of seats allocated.
Haider’s comments clearly indicate that the SP prioritizes winning potential in seat negotiations. However, the ultimate distribution of seats and which party will contest from where will be determined by the leadership of both parties. He expressed confidence that a mutually agreeable formula would be devised to maximize the alliance’s electoral advantage.
