ED Arrests Archana Kute in Major Money Laundering Case

Mumbai, March 5: In a significant crackdown on financial irregularities, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Archana Kute in connection with a major money laundering case. The arrest took place on March 2 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. This action is part of an investigation into financial scams linked to M/s Gyanradha Multistate Cooperative Credit Society Limited (DMCCSL).

Following her arrest, Archana Kute was presented in a special PMLA court in Mumbai on March 3. The court remanded her to ED custody until March 7 for further questioning.

According to a press release from the ED, this operation stems from multiple FIRs filed between May and July 2024 at various police stations in Maharashtra. The FIRs allege that Suresh Kute and his associates committed large-scale fraud against investors through Gyanradha Multistate Cooperative Credit Society Limited. The investigation revealed that the society had launched various deposit schemes promising high returns of 12 to 14 percent to attract investors. However, many investors did not receive their deposits back or were only partially reimbursed, resulting in significant financial losses.

The ED’s investigation uncovered that approximately ₹2,467 crores were allegedly transferred as loans to companies owned or controlled by the Kute group. These loans were reportedly granted without proper documentation, collateral, or valid proof of use. The agency alleges that the funds were misused for personal gain and investments in unrelated businesses rather than legitimate commercial activities.

The ED had previously arrested Suresh Kute and filed a prosecution complaint against him in the special PMLA court in Mumbai, which has acknowledged the crime. During the investigation, the ED conducted searches at multiple locations and issued several provisional attachment orders, leading to the seizure or attachment of assets worth approximately ₹1,621.89 crores. ED officials have stated that the investigation is ongoing.
