Pune, June 6: A young man, under the influence of alcohol, created a ruckus in Pune, threatening police officers with violence. The incident led to the police filing a case against him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The accused, identified as Rohan Gautam Salwe, 26, faces charges under multiple provisions of the IPC, the Maharashtra Police Act, and the Maharashtra Prohibition Act.
According to the police report, around 2 AM on June 5, officers received information that the Jayashree Hotel on Tilak Road was operating late at night. Upon arrival, they found a man arguing loudly with a woman. It was revealed that the man was filming the woman with her mobile phone, which she opposed, leading to a heated argument.
The police attempted to calm the man, but he became confrontational. He identified himself as Rohan Gautam Salwe, residing in Gultekdi, Pune. The police took him to Khadak Police Station for questioning. Upon arrival, officers noted a strong smell of alcohol, and he appeared unresponsive.
At approximately 2:20 AM, Senior Police Inspector Shashikant Chavan arrived at the station. The officers briefed him on the situation. During questioning, the accused used foul language towards the senior officer.
The complaint states that when Inspector Chavan tried to confirm the smell of alcohol, Salwe began spitting at him and other officers. When attempts were made to restrain him, he grabbed Police Constable Chandrashekhar Hunchalgi by the collar, twisted his right arm, and kicked him, causing injury.
The accused continued to threaten and verbally abuse the police, claiming he had a prior case under section 307 and that it would be easy for him to eliminate them.
Eventually, the police managed to subdue him. He was then taken to Sassoon Hospital for a medical examination, where doctors confirmed he was intoxicated. Blood samples were secured for chemical analysis.
Police Constable Chandrashekhar Hunchalgi also underwent a medical examination due to his injuries. The complaint indicated that Salwe obstructed the officers in their official duties, assaulted them, and issued death threats.
Charges against the accused include IPC sections 121(1), 132, 351(3), 352; section 112 and 117 of the Maharashtra Police Act, and section 85 of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act.
Senior Police Inspector Shashikant Chavan mentioned that Salwe has a previous record of assaulting a police officer at the Rajgad Police Station.
The court has placed the accused in police custody for three days, which will end on June 7. Authorities are conducting a detailed investigation into Salwe’s criminal history and the incident, with further legal action pending.
