New Delhi, June 20: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the Bhajanpura police in the national capital have arrested an alleged drug trafficker. The police seized 305 grams of cannabis from the suspect. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and further investigations are underway.
According to police officials, on June 19, a tip-off was received regarding the sale of narcotics in the area. Given the seriousness of the information, immediate verification was conducted, and senior officers were notified.
Based on this information, a special team was formed under the leadership of Inspector Satyawan Lathwal, the SHO of Bhajanpura police station. The team included ASI Om Prakash, Head Constable Vipin, and Constable Naseem. They began surveillance near the specified location in the Mahabharat Jhuggi area of Bhajanpura. At around 2:25 PM, the police team observed a suspicious individual carrying a plastic bag. Upon stopping him for questioning, he was identified as Anil Kumar, 75, son of Purushottam Das, a resident of D-Block, Bhajanpura, Delhi.
Following legal procedures, the police informed the suspect of his rights under Section 50 of the NDPS Act, which allows for a search in the presence of a gazetted officer or magistrate. However, the suspect declined to exercise this right in writing. During the search conducted by the police, a greenish-brown substance was found in the plastic bag, mixed with seeds and flowers. Upon examination, the substance was identified as cannabis, weighing a total of 305 grams.
Based on this seizure, the police registered a case against the suspect under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act and took him into custody. Authorities are now working to determine the source of the cannabis and the individuals involved in this illegal operation.
Initial investigations have revealed no prior criminal records against the suspect. However, the investigation is ongoing, with police efforts focused on identifying the supply chain of narcotics and other individuals connected to this network.
