Bhopal, August 7: Madhya Pradesh is facing inadequate rainfall, impacting agriculture across the state. Jitu Patwari, the president of the Congress unit in the state, has stated that 48 districts are experiencing drought-like conditions. He urged the government to provide a relief package to assist affected farmers.
Patwari emphasized the need for the government to supply pest control medications free of charge. He also called for expedited payments for crop insurance claims and the establishment of a clear timeline for these processes.
In a statement on the social media platform X, Patwari noted, “Drought-like conditions prevail in 48 districts of Madhya Pradesh. The crops of rice, soybean, and corn are on the brink of devastation due to insufficient rainfall and pest infestations.”
Discussing the impact of low rainfall on agriculture, he mentioned that rice fields in Jabalpur have developed cracks, while soybean crops in the Ujjain division are being ravaged by pests. He urged the government not to wait for the weather to improve but to fulfill its responsibilities.
Patwari has demanded that the state government conduct special surveys in the affected districts. He reiterated the need for free pest control medications for farmers and swift payments for crop insurance claims, along with a proactive relief package to compensate for potential losses.
He appealed to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, stating that farmers are looking to both the sky and the government for support. He stressed that the government should stand by farmers before a crisis escalates, rather than responding only after it occurs.
