New Delhi, August 12 (Kiran News). Dr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, member of the former royal family of Mewar, met Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan at the Ministry of Education in New Delhi to discuss concerns regarding history and social science textbooks published by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).

Dr. Mewar told the Education Minister that the word independence is synonymous with Mewar, whose identity was shaped by the valour of Maharana Pratap — the legendary warrior who fought the Mughal invaders for the freedom of the motherland. He said that Mewar has been a symbol of independence for over 1,500 years and played a key role in Rajasthan’s unification on April 18, 1948, under Maharana Bhupal Singh.
He expressed strong objection to the portrayal of Mewar as being under the rule of another entity in school textbooks, calling it an insult to its glorious history. He said that such misrepresentation has been taking place for over two decades, and teaching false history to children is a serious threat to their future. “History is the mirror for future generations, and if they learn it incorrectly, they may carry that misconception as truth for life,” he said, stressing that such errors must be corrected immediately in the national interest.
Dr. Mewar emphasised that historical content should be vetted by expert panels and published with factual accuracy and proper context, as it concerns the future of India’s youth. He also presented books on Mewar’s glorious history to the Minister while pointing out incorrect facts and maps in the current textbooks.
In response, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan assured Dr. Mewar that the incorrect maps in the school curriculum would be corrected and historical facts would be thoroughly reviewed.
