Chennai, March 24: As election fervor rises in South India, the alliance picture in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry is becoming clearer. The DMK-led coalition has allocated a total of eight seats to the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), with six reserved and two in the general category.
The seat-sharing agreement was signed by VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M.K. Stalin. This agreement is considered a crucial part of the coalition’s strategy for the upcoming assembly elections.
Earlier, on March 21, Thol. Thirumavalavan expressed concerns about the challenges facing his party. Despite a 25-year political journey, he noted that the party still struggles to secure adequate electoral opportunities.
During a Facebook Live session with party workers, Thirumavalavan stated, “Even after 25 years, this political arena feels new to us. We have not fully adapted, and the social environment has not been in our favor.” He also alleged that certain forces do not want his party to emerge as a strong political entity.
In Puducherry, the alliance talks between Congress and DMK for the assembly elections scheduled for April 9 have concluded. Following this, DMK released its list of candidates for 13 seats, having received a total of 14 seats, including one for VCK.
According to the election schedule, voting in Tamil Nadu will take place on April 23, while Puducherry will vote on April 9. Additionally, results for elections in Assam, Kerala, and West Bengal will be announced on May 4.
Voting will occur for all 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu and 30 seats in Puducherry. Consequently, all major political parties are finalizing their preparations. Following the seat-sharing agreement, the focus is now on candidate campaigning and electoral strategies.
Political analysts suggest that the alliance dynamics in these states could significantly impact election outcomes.
