Tehran, March 29: The ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States is escalating tensions globally. Both sides continue to launch attacks. Recently, Iran’s Foreign Ministry accused the US and Israel of deliberately targeting universities.
Ismail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, claimed that during the conflict, both nations have intentionally attacked several universities and research centers, including Isfahan University of Technology and the University of Science and Technology in Tehran.
In a post on the social media platform X, Baghaei stated, “The true aim of the US-Israeli attacks on Iran is becoming clear: systematically targeting our scientific foundations and cultural heritage by attacking universities, research centers, historical monuments, and renowned scientists.”
According to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, at least 600 educational institutions in Iran have been damaged or destroyed due to the war.
Baghaei noted, “Isfahan University of Technology and the University of Science and Technology in Tehran are just two of the many universities and research centers that have been deliberately attacked in the past 30 days. The claims of countering Iran’s nuclear program and the impending threat are mere fabrications to conceal their true intentions.”
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi condemned the actions of the US and Israel at the United Nations Human Rights Council. He stated, “Iran has been subjected to an illegal war imposed by two nuclear powers, the US and Israel. This attack is clearly unwarranted and extremely brutal.”
The assault began on February 28, during a diplomatic effort aimed at addressing US concerns regarding Iran’s nuclear program. For the second time in nine months, diplomacy was derailed by halting negotiations.
Araghchi highlighted one of the most horrifying examples of the attacks: the assault on Shazareh Tayebeh Primary School in southern Iran, where over 175 students and teachers were deliberately and brutally killed. He asserted that if they claim this attack was not premeditated, it should not be accepted.
He emphasized that targeting a school constitutes a war crime and a crime against humanity that must be unequivocally condemned by all.
Araghchi urged all nations to speak out against the US-Israeli attacks, stating, “Everyone must openly condemn the aggressors and demonstrate that the international community and the collective conscience of humanity will hold them accountable for the heinous crimes against the people of Iran. Iran has never sought war. The Iranian people are a peaceful and dignified nation, heirs to one of the world’s richest civilizations. However, they have shown a firm resolve to defend themselves against ruthless aggressors who recognize no limits in their crimes; this defense will continue as long as necessary.”
