DMK Initiates Seat Sharing Talks with VCK Ahead of Tamil Nadu Elections

Chennai, March 2: As the announcement of the Tamil Nadu Assembly election dates approaches, political parties are ramping up alliance discussions. The ruling DMK commenced formal seat-sharing negotiations with its key ally, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), at its headquarters in Chennai on Monday.

Senior leaders from both parties attended the meeting. VCK President Thol. Thirumavalavan and General Secretary Ravikumar represented their party, while top officials from the DMK led the discussions on behalf of the ruling coalition. This meeting is seen as a significant step towards finalizing the framework of the DMK-led alliance ahead of the Assembly elections.

Sources indicate that VCK, which contested six seats in the last Assembly elections, may push for an increase in the number of seats this time. Reportedly, party leaders are demanding seats in double digits. During the discussions, VCK is expected to present DMK with a list of about 20 preferred seats.

This list is said to include four seats that the party won in the previous elections, along with other constituencies where they see strong potential. VCK’s move signals an intent to strengthen and expand its base. The DMK, leading the ruling coalition, has already begun seat-sharing talks with various alliance partners.

Insiders within the party suggest that, given the competitive political landscape, leadership is eager to balance accommodating allies while retaining winning seats for themselves. With the Election Commission likely to announce the election schedule soon, political parties are accelerating their organizational preparations, candidate selections, and alliance negotiations.
