Divine Bhasma Aarti at Ujjains Mahakaleshwar Temple Draws Huge Crowds

Ujjain, April 3: On the auspicious day of the Krishna Paksha Pratipada in the month of Vaishakh, a significant gathering of devotees was witnessed at the renowned Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain. The morning Bhasma Aarti created a captivating and emotional atmosphere.

Devotees from across the country and abroad queued up late into the night, eagerly waiting for a glimpse of their beloved deity. The temple resonated with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.”

The morning Bhasma Aarti is particularly special. The sacred ash offered to Baba is prepared from the ashes of cow dung cakes, Palash, Banyan, Peepal, and Ber wood. During the Aarti, approximately two and a half kilograms of ash is placed on the Shivling, fulfilling the tradition of awakening Baba Mahakal.

As per tradition, the morning rituals began with the opening of Baba’s doors. At Brahma Muhurta, the Mahanirvani Akhara performed the initial water offering, followed by a ceremonial bath with Panchamrit. This Panchamrit consists of pure milk, fresh yogurt, ghee, sugar, honey, and various fruit juices. After the Abhishek, a grand Bhasma Aarti was conducted, where Baba was adorned with ash, and the Aarti was performed. During this ritual, Mahakal reveals himself to devotees in both formless and manifested forms, bathing only in ash.

Following this, a special adornment of Mahakal was carried out. A crown was placed on Baba’s head, along with a beautiful silver Tripundra. Additionally, a decorative Trishul was fashioned on his forehead, and Baba was embellished with flower garlands, bel leaves, sandalwood, and other offerings.

After the adornment, a Kapoor Aarti was performed, followed by the offering of Bhog. This form of Baba is considered to be his manifested presence.
