Discover the Sacred Shivkhori Cave in Jammu and Kashmir

Reasi, March 30: The Shivkhori Cave, located in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, attracts thousands of devotees each year. Situated in Sangar village, this sacred cave is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Its main attraction is the naturally formed Shivling, which deepens the devotion of every visitor.

The cave is approximately 200 meters long and features natural formations representing Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, and Kartikeya. Additionally, there are fascinating natural structures like a statue of Nandi and a snake shape on the cave’s ceiling, which leave every devotee in awe.

During Mahashivaratri, a special fair is held at Shivkhori, drawing crowds of devotees from far and wide to seek blessings from Lord Shiva. It is believed that 33 crore deities reside in and around the cave, earning it the title of ‘House of the Gods.’

Shivkhori is not just a cave; it is a blend of faith and mystery. According to legend, Lord Shiva hid in this cave to escape from Bhasmasur. The myth states that Bhasmasur was granted a boon that allowed him to turn anyone to ashes by placing his hand on their head. Attempting to test this boon on Lord Shiva, the deity took refuge in the cave. During this time, Lord Vishnu appeared in a beautiful form and vanquished Bhasmasur with his own boon.

Another intriguing mystery surrounding the cave is the belief that its other end leads to the Amarnath Cave. Although this claim remains unverified, local traditions suggest that ancient sages used this route to reach Amarnath.
