Agra, August 2 (H.S.) — In a significant move aimed at easing travel for devotees of Lord Ram, the Railways has announced a new direct train service between Agra and Ayodhya. The train, which will operate weekly, comes as a long-awaited relief for thousands of pilgrims and tourists who have been demanding better connectivity between the two religious cities following the construction of the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
According to Agra Rail Division’s Public Relations Officer, Ms. Prashasti Srivastava, the new train will run from Bhavnagar Terminal in Gujarat to Ayodhya, with a scheduled stop at Agra’s Idgah Railway Station. The service will run once a week — departing from Bhavnagar on Monday and returning from Ayodhya on Tuesday.
The train is expected to arrive at Agra Idgah Junction on Tuesday morning and proceed via Tundla, Firozabad, Etawah, Kanpur, and Lucknow, reaching Ayodhya by evening. A special ceremony is planned to mark the inaugural run of the train at Idgah Station, where Union Minister S.P. Singh Baghel is expected to flag off the service towards Ayodhya.
The journey will cover a total distance of approximately 1,550 kilometres and is expected to take around 30 hours. The train will offer a full range of coach classes, including AC First, AC Second, AC Third, Sleeper, and General compartments, catering to passengers from all economic backgrounds.
This new service is expected to significantly boost religious tourism and strengthen the spiritual connection between Agra, known as the city of Shiva, and Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram. Traders and businesses involved in religious goods and services in Agra are also hopeful that the new train will open up fresh opportunities for them. Additionally, the route will benefit regular travellers to Lucknow.
The announcement has been met with great enthusiasm among devotees, residents, and tourism stakeholders in Agra.
