Diksha Emerges as a Unified Digital Platform for School Education: Government

New Delhi, June 28: The central government announced on Sunday that the knowledge-sharing platform ‘Diksha’ has emerged as “One Nation, One Digital Platform” for school education. It provides digital learning resources linked to the curriculum in multiple languages, promoting inclusive and technology-based learning for students and teachers across India.

Launched in 2017, Diksha is operated by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in collaboration with the Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET).

The government describes this platform as the country’s “One Nation, One Digital Platform” for school education, aimed at continuing education through digital means.

According to the government, Diksha offers comprehensive digital learning support for K-12 education, covering everything from basic literacy and numeracy to senior secondary education.

This platform has been adopted by nearly all state and union territory education boards and can be customized to meet the needs of regional languages, curricula, and teaching methods.

The government stated that Diksha promotes accessible, engaging, and personalized learning experiences through technology and innovation. The platform provides various educational resources, including 2D and 3D animations, augmented reality experiences, simulations, virtual labs, and sign language videos, to enhance conceptual understanding and support diverse learning styles.

Available on the platform, QR-coded textbooks link NCERT textbooks to videos, interactive content, and teacher guides, facilitating seamless integration in classrooms. Inclusive features such as the Digital Accessible Information System (DAISY) format, text-to-speech functionality, and videos in Indian Sign Language have also been included to assist differently-abled learners.

The platform promotes personalized learning through practice questions, adaptive assessments, competency-based question banks, and detailed solutions, helping identify learning gaps and timely interventions. It also serves as a key platform for teacher professional development through NISHTHA and state-specific training programs, offering self-paced certified courses for educators.

The government noted that Diksha operates on a federated structure, allowing participating institutions and states to independently upload and manage educational content in regional languages. This decentralized model enables localization of content while maintaining quality standards through periodic verification by CIET-NCERT based on established guidelines.

The platform supports both online and offline learning. Students can download content for later use without internet connectivity, while many states and union territories preload educational materials on smart classroom boards to ensure seamless access.
