Varanasi, July 29: On the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima, a significant crowd of devotees gathered in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. From early morning, many pilgrims arrived at the Ganga ghats to take a holy dip. After bathing in the Ganga, they engaged in prayers, chanting, and various religious rituals. To ensure the safety of the devotees, water police and NDRF teams were deployed at the ghats.
Priest Vivekanand Pandey explained the significance of Guru Purnima, noting that it falls on the full moon day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashadha. He stated that a guru is one who leads individuals from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge. He highlighted that on this day, sages and saints showed people the path of wisdom, making this festival particularly important.
Devotees travel from far and wide to Kashi for Guru Purnima. Many bring their children for a dip in the Ganga, praying for their bright futures, education, and the attainment of knowledge. They also visit Baba Vishwanath, seeking success and wisdom in their lives.
Mahesh, a devotee from Gomti Nagar in Lucknow, emphasized the spiritual importance of this day. He mentioned that, according to tradition, Lord Bholenath takes on the burden of creation during the Chaturmas. He noted that bathing in the Ganga on Guru Purnima brings peace to the mind and a sense of positive energy.
A devotee named Amar Singh from Gorakhpur stated that Guru Purnima has held special significance since ancient times. It is a day to honor and express reverence for one’s guru. On this occasion, people meditate and remember their mentors.
Dinesh Chandrajoja, who traveled from Lucknow, shared his experience of bathing in the Ganga for Guru Purnima. He found the experience at the ghats to be very pleasant, as the crowd was manageable, allowing for a peaceful worship experience. He noted that this day holds special significance for those receiving guru mantras, which is why he comes every year for the Ganga dip and to honor his guru.
