Kolkata, August 29: Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury shared his views with reporters on various issues on Saturday. He emphasized that Durga Puja is integral to West Bengal‘s identity, and there can be no compromise on this matter. He noted that while the ritual involves animal sacrifice, it is unfortunate that the BJP is attempting to mislead people regarding this tradition.
Chowdhury stated that they do not require any advice from the BJP on what actions to take. He suggested that BJP members should keep their opinions to themselves. Recently, a colleague in Delhi asked him whether he was vegetarian or non-vegetarian, to which he replied, “We all eat.” He further asserted that in West Bengal, fish is considered a vegetable. He urged BJP representatives not to impart any unsolicited knowledge, stating that they have received all the wisdom they need.
The Congress leader also expressed concerns regarding the facilities provided to prisoners in jails. He lamented that prisoners in India enjoy five-star hotel-like amenities. He pointed out that inmates do not feel the reality of being in prison, as they are aware that everything can be bought with money, allowing them to act without fear. He emphasized that they are currently fighting against such arrangements.
Chowdhury remarked that the Chief Minister of West Bengal holds all necessary powers, including control over the police administration. He challenged the CM to effectively tackle crime in the state. He also described the recent deaths of children in Malda, West Bengal, as tragic and unfortunate.
He urged West Bengal ministers to take immediate and decisive action. If such incidents are occurring in urban areas, one can only imagine the state of rural regions. This highlights that despite a change in government, health facilities in West Bengal remain in dire condition, with no concrete steps being taken by the administration.
