Uttarkashi, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : The sacred land of Uttarakhand is home to numerous revered shrines, each embodying the unwavering faith of its devotees. Among these is the Maa Kuteti Devi Temple, a legendary site located in Uttarkashi, where visitors offer bells as a token of gratitude when their wishes are fulfilled.
Maa Kuteti Devi is believed to have been the family deity of the royal family from Kota-Bundi in Rajasthan. To reach this temple, devotees must ascend approximately 50 steps, a journey that adds to the spiritual experience.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami recently encouraged people to experience the temple’s tranquil ambiance through a post on the social media platform X. He shared a video of the temple, stating, “Nestled amidst the beautiful valleys of Uttarkashi, the ‘Maa Kuteti Devi Temple’ is a magnificent confluence of faith, devotion, and spiritual peace. Dedicated to Maa Adi Shakti, this sacred temple is renowned for its ancient religious significance, divine atmosphere, and natural beauty. Make sure to visit this holy site when in Uttarkashi.”
According to local legends, the Maharaja of Kota visited Uttarkashi during a pilgrimage and lost his bag. He prayed at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, vowing to marry his daughter to a worthy man from Uttarkashi if his bag was found. Upon its return, the royal wedding took place, but the princess felt sorrowful being away from her family deity. In a dream, the goddess appeared as three fragrant stones in a field, leading to the establishment of the temple at that very spot.
It is widely believed that visiting and praying at this holy site alleviates devotees’ hardships, particularly in fulfilling desires for children. During the Navratri festival, especially on Ashtami and Navami, the temple sees a significant influx of pilgrims from across the country and abroad.
