Samajwadi Party Lawmaker Criticizes Government Amidst Democracy Warriors Tribute

Lucknow, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : In a recent ceremony honoring democracy warriors, Samajwadi Party (SP) legislator Kamal Akhtar took aim at the current government, asserting that the nation is experiencing an undeclared state of emergency.

Speaking during the event in Lucknow, Akhtar remarked, “Throughout history, whenever governments have made authoritarian decisions, SP leaders have fought against them. Figures like Mulayam Singh Yadav, Janeshwar Mishra, and Akhilesh Yadav have consistently raised their voices against injustice.”

He emphasized the significance of honoring democracy warriors today, noting their sacrifices for the preservation of democratic values. Many have endured imprisonment and left their families behind. While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governs in several states, he pointed out that only in Uttar Pradesh are these democracy warriors being recognized.

Comparing the current political climate to the Emergency period, Akhtar stated, “During the Emergency, it was overt; today, it is undeclared. There is oppression, injustice, and maltreatment of opposition members. The use of police and administration to suppress dissent creates an atmosphere reminiscent of an emergency.”

He called on the youth to recognize these democracy warriors as symbols of the fight against tyranny. “We must prepare ourselves to remove this undeclared emergency in Uttar Pradesh and restore democracy by replacing the BJP with a Samajwadi Party government,” he said.

On the topic of Muslim representation in the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA), Akhtar asserted that each party has its own decisions and does not require validation from others. He highlighted the SP’s history of sending numerous representatives to the Vidhan Parishad and granting assembly tickets, as well as representation in the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha.

He added, “The current decisions are made by our national leadership, which is paramount. We do not need validation from anyone. The Samajwadi Party has always stood by the Dalits, backward classes, and minorities, and will continue to do so.”

In response to RSS leader Sunil Ambecker’s comments about reinstating the NRC, Akhtar criticized the BJP, stating that when the party fails to meet the basic needs of the public, it resorts to such divisive issues.

“Today, people need jobs, quality healthcare, fair prices for crops, and effective flood protection,” he emphasized. “When the BJP fails to provide these essentials, it remembers issues like CAA, NRC, and UCC.”
