New Delhi, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made a significant breakthrough in the case of VHP leader Vikas Prabhakar’s targeted killing. Harvinder Kumar, also known as Sonu, was apprehended after being deported from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on October 1, 2026.
According to the NIA, Kumar had been providing logistical support and funding to the accused involved in the murder while residing in the UAE. He was arrested at Indira Gandhi International Airport upon his return to India. Following his arrest, he was presented in a special NIA court for further legal proceedings.
Vikas Prabhakar was murdered by members of the banned terrorist organization Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). The NIA registered the case on May 9, 2024, and has since filed three charge sheets related to the investigation.
Earlier, on August 13, 2026, another suspect, Manveer Ram, was arrested at Amritsar Airport. He is accused of supplying the weapons used in the crime. Investigations revealed that the plot to kill Prabhakar was orchestrated by BKI operatives Harjeet Singh, also known as Laddi, and Kulbir Singh, also known as Siddhu, who are based in Germany.
The investigation further established that Harvinder Kumar played a crucial role as a recruiter and handler for the BKI, coordinating logistics and financing for operatives abroad. He was responsible for arranging weapons for the shooters and managed the transfer and receipt of terror funds under the directions of Singh and Kulbir.
The NIA stated that Kumar’s return and arrest underscore the agency’s commitment to bringing fugitives involved in terrorism cases back to justice in India. This success is attributed to the coordinated efforts of various agencies, and the investigation is ongoing.
