New Delhi, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Pravesh Verma spoke extensively on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process during a press conference in New Delhi. He emphasized that this is a routine procedure, countering unnecessary questions raised by the opposition.
Verma explained that voters whose names are missing or whose voter list information contains discrepancies receive notices from the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO). These notices provide an opportunity for voters to submit the required documentation.
He criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress, and affiliated NGOs for continuously questioning the process. Verma noted that a petition regarding this issue was filed in the Supreme Court, where it is set to be debated.
“The SIR process is ongoing in Delhi. If there are any deficiencies in a person’s documents, the ERO issues a notice. The notice addresses any deficiencies found,” Verma stated.
He clarified that notices are sent to everyone, whether they are ordinary citizens or VIPs. If a person is unavailable at home or has incomplete documentation, they will receive a notice.
Verma asserted that the work being done by the Election Commission is completely transparent and impartial. He stated that the Commission does not discriminate when sending out notices; any voter with documentation issues will receive one.
He encouraged citizens who believe their names may be omitted from the SIR process to take the opportunity to rectify their documents and respond to the notices.
Regarding the timeline of the process, Verma explained that individuals who receive notices can respond by September 30. The scrutiny of these responses will continue until October 29, with the final voter list being released on November 4.
He added that even if a person’s name does not appear on the list after this process, they can still register their objections, which will also follow a defined procedure.
Verma directed his remarks at the opposition, particularly targeting leaders like Arvind Kejriwal and Saurabh Bharadwaj. He urged them not to undermine public confidence in the Election Commission by spreading misinformation.
He concluded by accusing the opposition of misrepresenting facts and misleading the public. According to Verma, the Election Commission has conducted elections fairly in the past, and questioning the SIR process is unjustified.
