Lucknow, June 23: The recent fire incident in Aliganj has sparked a fierce political debate, with Uttar Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister, Brajesh Pathak, launching a scathing attack on Akhilesh Yadav. Pathak stated that this tragic event, which claimed 15 lives, is a direct result of the misdeeds of Yadav’s administration. He criticized Yadav for engaging in politics while sitting comfortably in an air-conditioned room.
Pathak described the Aliganj fire as a glaring example of corruption during Yadav’s tenure. He pointed out that the allocation of the plot and the construction of the illegal building occurred under Yadav’s government. He accused Yadav of sealing the building only to later reopen it and cancel demolition orders. This heartbreaking incident is a consequence of the failures of Yadav’s administration.
The Deputy CM emphasized that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath immediately canceled all his engagements to visit the site. He met with the affected families and initiated actions for justice that very night. Four officials have been suspended, and strict actions will be taken against anyone found responsible for the incident. The Chief Minister has also formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.
Pathak expressed empathy for the families who lost loved ones, assuring them that the government would provide all possible support and justice. He attributed the rise of dangerous buildings across the state to the corrupt ecosystem fostered during Yadav’s government. Although the plot was allocated in 1980, the real issues began during Yadav’s rule.
He noted that on August 20, 2014, Yadav’s government approved a residential plan of 1,992 square feet. A case of illegal construction was filed in 2016, and a demolition order was issued on May 10 of that year. However, just two months later, on July 5, 2016, Yadav’s government revoked the demolition order. Pathak questioned the reasons behind this decision and who influenced it, citing satellite images that reveal the truth.
The Deputy CM stated that the plot was completely vacant in December 2015, yet construction began in February 2016 and was completed by June 2016. This indicates that rules were blatantly ignored, and the construction proceeded unchecked under Yadav’s administration. He asked if any officials faced action during Yadav’s time or if any accountability was established. The answer is a resounding no! This fire incident stands as a living testament to the corruption and negligence of Akhilesh Yadav’s government.
