Kolkata, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : The dengue outbreak in West Bengal has escalated, with the number of affected individuals surpassing 5,000. According to the latest report from the health department, as of September 11, the total number of dengue cases in the state reached 5,002.
A senior health official expressed concern, noting that this figure is significantly higher than the 2,500 cases reported by the same date in August.
The data reveals that Murshidabad district has the highest number of cases, with 1,072 infections. Kolkata follows with 500 cases, and North 24 Parganas has reported 450. Historically, these districts have seen the highest incidence of dengue in recent years.
On September 2, the health department implemented a standard operating procedure (SOP) aimed at monitoring and controlling dengue cases in West Bengal. This initiative focuses on house-to-house surveillance and prompt blood tests for individuals exhibiting dengue symptoms. The recent spike in cases indicates that the SOP guidelines are being diligently followed. Additionally, the data suggests that there have been no attempts to downplay the dengue statistics this year, unlike in previous years when cases were often misreported as an unknown illness.
The health department has instructed all district officials to conduct an extensive campaign to test individuals displaying dengue symptoms by October 15. Officials are also advised to regularly report the number of people suffering from fever and the number of dengue tests conducted daily.
