Chennai, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Chennai has witnessed a significant increase in fever cases over the past few weeks, with both the city and its suburbs reporting alarming trends. Viral infections and dengue are spreading in multiple areas. Healthcare professionals are advising residents to remain vigilant, seek timely medical attention, and implement measures to prevent mosquito breeding.
In the last ten days alone, over 2,000 individuals have shown symptoms of fever, with 140 confirmed cases of dengue indicating a rise in mosquito-borne infections. This is a concerning trend compared to August, which recorded approximately 4,500 fever cases, of which 160 were dengue.
The latest statistics have raised alarms among health experts, particularly as the number of dengue cases is nearing the total reported last month. Areas such as Adyar, Anna Nagar, and Valasaravakkam are experiencing the highest incidence of fever cases. Both public and private hospitals are closely monitoring the situation, as patients present with symptoms including fever, body aches, and cough.
Doctors have noted the presence of several respiratory viruses in the city, including Influenza A, rhinovirus, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Viral fevers can spread rapidly, especially in crowded households where infected individuals do not take adequate precautions.
Patients suffering from fever are advised against self-medication and should consult qualified doctors for necessary tests. Delays in treatment or taking medication without medical advice can worsen conditions, particularly in cases of dengue.
Residents are urged to take preventive actions to control mosquito breeding. This includes ensuring that there is no stagnant water in pots, tires, containers, rooftops, or open areas around homes and commercial buildings. Stored water should be properly covered, and containers should be cleaned regularly.
Health professionals emphasize the importance of keeping residential areas, construction sites, and surrounding environments free of garbage and debris. Maintaining cleanliness and eliminating stagnant water are crucial in reducing the spread of dengue. Additionally, individuals are advised to use mosquito nets, repellents, and protective clothing, especially during the early morning and evening hours. Anyone experiencing persistent fever, severe body aches, vomiting, unusual fatigue, or bleeding symptoms should seek immediate medical evaluation and treatment.
