Delhis Economic Survey 2025-26: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Presents Growth Insights

New Delhi, March 23: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented the Economic Survey for 2025-26 on the first day of the assembly’s budget session. She stated that the survey reflects the capital’s rapidly growing economy, robust infrastructure, and welfare policies. The Delhi government aims to transform the capital into a world-class, inclusive, equitable, and livable city that meets the aspirations of every citizen.

According to preliminary estimates, Delhi’s economy (GSDP) is projected to reach approximately ₹13,27,055 crore at current prices in 2025-26, marking a 9.42% increase from the previous year. Per capita income is also expected to rise to around ₹5,31,610, nearly two and a half times the national average. However, the survey indicates that the growth rate of per capita income in 2023-24 and 2024-25 was slower compared to the national average.

The service sector contributes the largest share to Delhi’s economy at 86.32%, while industry accounts for 12.88% and agriculture just 0.80%. The state maintains a revenue surplus, estimated at around ₹9,661.31 crore (0.73% of GSDP). Out of a total budget of ₹1 lakh crore, ₹59,300 crore has been allocated for various schemes and programs.

Efforts by the Delhi government to control air pollution have improved air quality, resulting in an increase in the number of ‘good days’ (good, satisfactory, and moderate) from 159 in 2018 to 200 in 2025. In agriculture and animal husbandry, the city boasts a robust network of 46 government veterinary hospitals, 25 dispensaries, one laboratory, one farmer information center, and three mobile veterinary units. The number of animals receiving treatment at these centers has also seen significant growth, rising from 4,15,986 in 2011-12 to 5,45,754 by March 2026.
