New Delhi, August 9: The Delhi Police Special Cell (SWAT), along with district police units from New Delhi, Central, North, East, South, South West, and South East, participated in a joint anti-terrorism exercise called ‘Suraksha Shakti-V’. This exercise also involved the Range Bomb Disposal Squad and various special units, including Traffic, Crime Branch, IGI Airport, Metro, and PCR. Collaborating agencies included the NSG, Indian Army, NDRF, CISF Airport Security, BCAS, AAI, CISF Metro Security, DMRC, Fire Department, District Disaster Management, FSL, CATS Ambulance, and Health Services.
The Delhi Police issued a press release on Saturday, stating that the purpose of ‘Suraksha Shakti-V’ was to test and enhance coordination among different agencies in the event of a terrorist attack in the national capital.
During the exercise, various anti-terrorism forces were called in phases to respond to simulated scenarios. The Delhi Police SWAT commandos showcased exceptional professionalism, operational skills, inter-agency coordination, and rapid response capabilities.
Simulated terrorist incidents included multiple explosions, indiscriminate gunfire, hostage situations, airplane hijacking, and CBRNE attacks at key locations such as ISBT Kashmiri Gate, Connaught Place, Nehru Place Market, Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi Secretariat, JLN Stadium, IGI Airport, V3S Mall, Red Fort Metro Station, Culture School, ISKCON Temple, and Kalka Ji Temple.
The exercise commenced on Friday at 10 AM and concluded on August 8 at 4 AM. This marked the fifth edition of the annual exercise, previously known as ‘Op-All Out’, conducted under the supervision of the MHA and organized by the NSG and Special Cell. Given the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, ‘Suraksha Shakti-V’ holds even greater significance.
