
Beijing, August 9: According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, domestic tourism activities in the country saw a significant increase in the first half of 2026.
Data from domestic tourist surveys indicate that the number of domestic tourist trips reached 3.463 billion during this period, marking a 5.4% rise compared to the same timeframe last year. This period recorded an additional 178 million tourist trips.
The statistics reveal that urban residents undertook 2.594 billion domestic tourist trips, reflecting a 5.8% increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, rural residents made 869 million domestic trips, which is a 4.3% annual increase.
When analyzed quarterly, the first quarter of the year saw 1.901 billion domestic tourist trips, a 6% increase from the same period last year. In the second quarter, the number of domestic tourist trips was recorded at 1.562 billion, showing a 4.8% annual growth.
Additionally, the total tourism expenditure by domestic tourists in the first half of 2026 reached 3.21 trillion yuan, which is a 2% increase compared to the same period last year. During this time, tourism spending rose by 60 billion yuan. Urban residents accounted for 2.66 trillion yuan of this expenditure, a 2.2% increase from the previous year. Rural residents’ tourism spending was recorded at 560 billion yuan, reflecting a 0.6% increase.
