Maharashtra Approves ₹39.86 Crore Relief for Palghar Flood Victims

Mumbai, August 9: In a significant move, the district administration of Palghar, Maharashtra, has taken steps to assist families, shopkeepers, and street vendors affected by heavy rainfall and flooding. The Relief and Rehabilitation Department has approved a financial aid package of ₹39.86 crore for the impacted citizens.

The administration has expedited the relief distribution process, with ₹22.77 crore already disbursed to 15,190 beneficiaries.

According to district officials, out of the total approved amount of ₹39.86 crore, ₹29.87 crore is allocated for families affected by the excessive rainfall, while ₹9.99 crore is designated for shopkeepers whose businesses and livelihoods have been disrupted by the natural disaster.

So far, under the family assistance category, ₹22.77 crore has been distributed among 15,190 beneficiaries in the district. The highest assistance has been provided in the Dahanu taluka, where ₹7.98 crore was allocated for 5,321 beneficiaries. In Vasai, ₹7.50 crore was distributed to 5,000 beneficiaries, while Palghar received ₹4.88 crore for 3,255 beneficiaries. Talasari saw ₹2.32 crore allocated for 1,550 beneficiaries, and ₹8.28 lakh was distributed to 64 beneficiaries in Wada.

The process of providing financial aid to the remaining 7,707 affected beneficiaries is ongoing. The district administration has intensified efforts to ensure the timely distribution of relief funds. Additionally, the government has approved ₹9.99 crore for shopkeepers and street vendors whose businesses and livelihoods have been impacted by the heavy rains and flooding.

The approved amounts for various talukas include ₹35.95 lakh for Palghar, ₹1.30 crore for Dahanu, ₹5.50 lakh for Talasari, and ₹5.025 crore for Vasai.

Verification of eligible shopkeepers and the distribution of assistance is currently underway. The administration aims to deliver relief funds to eligible beneficiaries without unnecessary delays.

According to district officials, the availability of approved funds has accelerated the compensation and distribution of financial aid. Relevant departments are continuously working to ensure that beneficiary verification, documentation, and fund distribution are carried out transparently and promptly.

The primary objective of this relief initiative is to provide timely financial support to citizens affected by excessive rainfall and flooding, helping families, shopkeepers, and others reliant on their livelihoods recover swiftly from the impacts of the natural disaster.
