Delhi Police Busts Human Trafficking Ring, Rescues Five Newborns

New Delhi, June 18: The Delhi Police have uncovered an interstate human trafficking ring involved in the illegal trade of infants. Thirteen individuals, including traffickers, intermediaries, buyers, and a hospital owner, have been arrested. During the operation, six newborns were rescued from Delhi, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh.

The investigation revealed a well-organized gang that was actively trafficking children across Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat. The hospital owner allegedly assisted in illegal abortions and facilitated the transfer of newborns using forged documents.

Initially, a sum of ₹20,000 was charged as a decoy operation fee. Subsequently, the price for purchasing a newborn was set at ₹2,92,400. Following police inquiries, a suspect supplying newborns from Gujarat was apprehended.

On June 5, after receiving a tip-off, the police initiated a decoy operation near RK Ashram Marg in the Paharganj area. They caught Jyoti alias Kamlesh, Shalu, and Lalit red-handed while attempting to sell newborns. One infant, just four to five days old, was successfully rescued during this operation.

The police have registered a case under sections 143(4), 61(2), and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code and the Juvenile Justice Act at the Paharganj police station. The investigation has been assigned to the Central District Operations Unit, led by W/SI Pragati.

The inquiry revealed that the arrested individuals were part of an interstate human trafficking network. They purchased children from various locations and sold them to couples unable to conceive.

Jyoti emerged as the primary accused, sourcing infants from different suppliers, including one identified as Saibabhai Gamar alias Kaliya, who procured newborns from Gujarat and Rajasthan.

Based on information from Jyoti, two additional suspects, identified as Pratibha and Vipin, were also arrested. They were involved in arranging other newborns. During the arrests, police recovered ₹2,92,400 from them, indicating their involvement in the trafficking of infants.

Additionally, the name Omvati surfaced during the investigation. Working as a domestic helper in Gurugram, she allegedly played a mediating role and was crucial in arranging the newborns for the trafficking ring.

Dr. Viveki, the owner of Hira Multi-Specialty Hospital located in Begumpur, Delhi, was also implicated. The investigation revealed that the hospital played a significant role in the trafficking, as all infants were kept there before being sold to childless couples.

The inquiry uncovered that fabricated documents, including hospital records and reproductive documents, were created to facilitate the transfer of newborns.

According to police, the gang operated through a vast network involving suppliers, intermediaries, drivers, and buyers. Newborns were sourced from various regions and handed over to members of the Delhi gang. Once in Delhi, the infants were hidden, medically supervised, and prepared for illegal transfer to potential buyers.

This network identified childless couples seeking infants, allegedly preparing fake records and supporting documents to establish legal parentage and facilitate the transfer of the babies, which were sold for substantial sums.
