Delhi Police Bust Fake Marriage Racket, Three Arrested Including Husband and Wife

New Delhi, July 2: Delhi police have dismantled a fake marriage racket, leading to the arrest of three individuals. This gang targeted unsuspecting victims, orchestrating sham marriages to swindle them out of large sums of money.

The arrested suspects include Lovely, also known as Lalita, and Kamal Lohra from Gumla, Jharkhand, along with Deepu, also known as Rakesh Ekka, from Raghuveer Nagar in Delhi. Authorities revealed that the case came to light when a report was filed on June 18 regarding the disappearance of a woman named Lovely.

In response, a dedicated team was formed to investigate the matter. Utilizing technical surveillance and local intelligence, they discovered that the missing woman was residing in Pali district, Rajasthan. Acting swiftly, the team reached the Takhtgarh police station in Pali, where they located the woman.

During questioning, Lovely disclosed that she had been married to Kamal Lohra for 18 years and that they have four children. She admitted that she, along with her husband and accomplices—Deepu, Ankit Verma, Deepika, and Gopal—were running a fake marriage racket targeting single men.

Police reported that the suspects had facilitated a marriage between Lovely, posing as a single woman, and Shrawan Vaishnav from Jalore, Rajasthan, on June 1. The gang collected 600,000 rupees from the victim, which they subsequently divided among themselves. Authorities noted that the gang’s plan was to abscond with cash and valuables from the in-laws’ house after the marriage.

Based on the victim’s complaint and evidence gathered during the investigation, an FIR was filed at the Khayala police station on June 29. Following this, police arrested the three suspects: Lovely, Kamal Lohra, and Deepu.

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to presenting married women as brides to lure single men, collecting money under the guise of marriage, and planning to flee with cash and valuables afterward.

Police stated that further investigations are ongoing to locate the remaining suspects and to determine if this gang was involved in similar frauds in other states.
