
New Delhi, July 2: The Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of Delhi Police has apprehended a notorious criminal following an encounter. The suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and is currently hospitalized.
Police officials reported that during a rigorous checking operation near Sannoth village on the night of July 1-2, the team attempted to stop the accused. In response, the criminal attempted to flee and opened fire on the police. The officers retaliated, injuring him in the process.
The suspect has been identified as Irshad Ali, also known as Sukar Ali, a resident of the JJ Colony in Bawana. He was wanted in several snatching and robbery cases.
Earlier, the AATS had also arrested two vehicle thieves, recovering eight stolen two-wheelers from them. According to Delhi Police, the AATS teams have been conducting anti-theft operations under the directives of senior officials to curb the rising incidents of vehicle theft and apprehend active criminals.
On Tuesday, a tip-off indicated that two habitual vehicle thieves were about to dispose of a stolen scooter near the dirty drain road in Raghubir Nagar.
Acting swiftly, the AATS team set up a trap at the specified location. Around 7:45 PM, they spotted two suspects on a scooter without a registration plate. Upon noticing the police, the suspects attempted a U-turn to escape but lost balance and fell onto the road. After a brief chase, both were quickly apprehended.
The suspects have been identified as Ajay, also known as Chirag, and Shivam, also known as Aman. Police revealed that both were involved in multiple vehicle theft cases. During intense questioning, they confessed to their involvement in several thefts. Following their leads, police recovered additional stolen two-wheelers hidden at various locations across Delhi.
