Hyderabad, July 2: A private junior college in Hyderabad’s Old City has filed a police complaint against a BJP leader and his supporters. They allegedly entered the college and intimidated staff, demanding to see records, suspecting that Rohingya Muslim children were enrolled there.
According to the complaint lodged at Santosh Nagar Police Station by the principal of Nuria Cooperative Junior College, around 30-40 individuals led by BJP leader Andela Shriramulu Yadav entered the premises. They threatened staff and insisted on reviewing student records.
Principal Mohammad Gaziuddin reported that the incident, which occurred on Wednesday in the Edi Bazaar area, created an atmosphere of fear among both staff and students. He called for action against those involved and dismissed allegations that the college had admitted children of illegal immigrants.
Lecturer Huzaifa clarified that admissions are granted in accordance with the Board of Intermediate’s regulations, based on valid refugee cards.
Earlier, Shriramulu Yadav claimed that several children of illegal immigrants were studying at the college. He stated that he discovered a student from the Rohingya community enrolled there, and upon investigation, found multiple foreign children attending the institution.
The BJP leader accused the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) of supporting the college’s admission of Rohingyas. He asserted that the college administration showed him records of the students alleged to be Rohingya, along with the bonafide certificates from the 10th grade and other identification documents submitted during the admission process.
He demanded that the state government revoke the college’s accreditation due to the admission of children of illegal immigrants. Shriramulu Yadav also questioned whether AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi was opposing the ‘Special Intensive Revision’ (SIR) of the voter list to protect illegal immigrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh.
