Delhi High Court Urges Election Commission to Expedite K. Kavithas Party Registration

New Delhi, March 19: The Delhi High Court has instructed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to make a swift decision regarding a petition filed by former MP and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K. Kavitha. She is seeking the registration of her new political party, ‘Telangana Praja Jagriti.’

During the hearing, Kavitha’s legal representative informed the court that she had applied for party registration with the ECI some time ago, but no substantial action has been taken so far. Kavitha argued that the commission has neither advanced her application nor provided a clear reason for the delay, leaving her request pending.

Her lawyer emphasized the urgency of a prompt decision, citing upcoming local body elections in Telangana, which include district council and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) elections. If her party is not registered in time, they will be unable to participate in these elections.

The Delhi High Court took this argument seriously and directed the Election Commission to consider Kavitha’s application promptly and issue a decision within a reasonable timeframe. The court also noted that unnecessary delays in such matters could harm the applicant, making timely action essential.

All eyes are now on the Election Commission’s next steps. It is anticipated that a decision may come soon. Meanwhile, discussions regarding the registration of Kavitha’s new party have intensified in political circles, especially in light of the upcoming local elections in Telangana, making this issue even more significant.
