
New Delhi, July 1: In a significant decision, the Delhi Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has approved a proposal to allow non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other institutions to adopt 75 historical monuments, including the renowned Mirza Ghalib’s Haveli located in Ballimaran, Chandni Chowk.
According to an official statement released on Tuesday, the responsibility for the preservation and maintenance of these monuments will be handed over to trusts, NGOs, foundations, or other institutions.
The statement noted that all 75 monuments fall under the jurisdiction of the Delhi government’s Archaeology Department. Among these, nearly a dozen are situated around the Mehrauli Archaeological Park and the northern and southern ridge areas.
The list of the 75 monuments includes a tower located in Lodhi Garden, an unnamed mosque, a baoli, the remnants of a mosque, and a garden enclosed by a wall, along with its entrance.
Additionally, the ‘Mutiny Memorial’ located in the northern ridge area near Hindu Rao Hospital is also part of this list. Several monuments in Badarpur village have been included, such as the northern entrance, central entrance, and southern entrance of Badarpur Sarai, along with the remnants of the complex.
Other notable monuments earmarked for maintenance by various organizations include Sheikh Ali’s Gumbad in Defense Colony, the Gol Gumbad near Lodhi Road Flyover, Munda Gumbad located near Hauz Khas Tank in Deer Park, the large Lao Gumbad, and a mosque, baoli, and water channel near Priya Cinema in Vasant Vihar, as well as the mosque of Dervesh Shah near Siri Auditorium in Sports Village.
Furthermore, the entrance to Mahaldar Khan Garden near Gur Ki Mandi in Rana Pratap Bagh, the baoli in Dwarka Sector-12, Malcha Mahal on S.P. Mukherjee Marg, the Imambara on Qutub Road, and Bhuli Bhatiyari Ka Mahal in the southern ridge area near Karol Bagh are also included in the list of monuments to be entrusted to NGOs.
