
New Delhi, March 20: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched 300 new electric buses from the Indraprastha bus depot on Friday. Alongside this initiative, the EV incentive portal, which had been inactive since 2023, has been revived.
Chief Minister Gupta stated that this initiative will provide a new direction for the capital’s transportation and make travel easier, safer, and more convenient for passengers. The government’s primary goal is to make Delhi’s public transport system completely emission-free. Continuous efforts are underway to achieve this, with a rapid increase in the number of electric buses. The addition of these new EV buses will offer Delhi residents a safer, more comfortable, and environmentally friendly travel option.
She informed that over 2,000 electric buses have been added to the Delhi Transport Corporation’s fleet in the past year, positioning Delhi among the leading cities in the country operating the highest number of electric buses.
The integration of these new buses will enhance connectivity in the capital, especially in areas where public transport options have been limited. The Chief Minister emphasized that the government aims to provide modern and clean transport facilities to every corner of the city.
On this occasion, a new interstate bus service between Nanak Sar and Ghaziabad was also inaugurated, significantly improving travel convenience for passengers in Delhi and the NCR. Additionally, the foundation stone for a new DTC office building was laid, which will help streamline and modernize the transport system.
During the event, the Chief Minister made another significant announcement regarding the revival of the EV incentive portal, which had been inactive since 2023. Under this program, approximately 24 crore rupees in pending subsidies have been transferred directly to the accounts of 12,877 beneficiaries.
Cabinet colleague Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh and MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah, along with several dignitaries, were present at the event. This initiative by the government is considered a significant step towards making Delhi cleaner, greener, and more modern.
