New Delhi, April 19: Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn believes that the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) recent victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2026 could serve as a pivotal moment for the team this season. Steyn noted that this win may help SRH climb the points table.
With this victory, SRH has secured a spot in the top four of the points table. In the 27th match of IPL 2026, held on Saturday, SRH triumphed over CSK by 10 runs. This marks SRH’s third win of the season. Batting first against CSK, SRH scored 194 runs, losing 9 wickets in their 20 overs.
Abhishek Sharma delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 59 runs off just 22 balls. He and Travis Head combined for a solid opening partnership of 75 runs. Meanwhile, Heinrich Klaasen contributed significantly with 59 runs off 39 balls, forming crucial partnerships with Nitish Kumar Reddy, Salil Arora, and Aniket Verma, which helped SRH achieve their highest score against CSK in IPL history.
In an interview with ‘JioStar’, Steyn remarked, “This victory against CSK shows that after a slow start to the season, SRH is returning to their best form. During the innings break, I spoke with Heinrich Klaasen, who mentioned that they felt they might have been 10 or 15 runs short of where they should have been. Klaasen emphasized that the bowlers needed to perform exceptionally well to secure the win. SRH executed just that on the field, showcasing their hard work in fielding and taking challenging catches. They appeared fully committed to their goal.”
Chasing a target of 195 runs, CSK managed to score only 184 runs, losing 8 wickets in their 20 overs. Matthew Short was the top scorer for CSK with 34 runs, while Ayush Mhatre made a quick 30 runs off 13 balls. Sarfaraz Khan contributed 25 runs off 19 balls, and Shivam Dube added 21 runs off 16 balls. For SRH, Ishan Malinga excelled with the ball, taking 3 wickets for just 29 runs, while Nitish Kumar Reddy claimed 2 wickets.
Steyn further added, “When SRH clinched the victory, Heinrich Klaasen, fielding at long-off, turned to the crowd, patted his chest, and displayed the SRH badge, saying, ‘Thank you for your support, we are back in the game.’ This win could prove to be a turning point for them as they aim to consistently rise in the points table.”
