Punjab Kings Shine in IPL 2026 Match Against Lucknow Super Giants, Says Rishabh Pant

New Chandigarh, April 19: In the 29th match of IPL 2026, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) faced a 54-run defeat against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday. LSG captain Rishabh Pant acknowledged that pinpointing a single reason for the loss is challenging. However, he credited the Punjab Kings for their outstanding performance in the match.

After suffering their fourth defeat of the season, Pant stated, “It’s difficult to attribute the loss to one factor, as our bowlers performed well. Yet, there are aspects we need to focus on. We did see some positive signs in our batting, which we had discussed. We aim to carry forward these positives, but as a team, we strive to perform well in every match.”

Discussing the decision to send Ayush Badoni as an opening batsman, Pant explained, “The idea was for him to go out there and play freely without pressure. This decision wasn’t made today; it was predetermined that he would open. We wanted to give the top order some freedom while ensuring the middle order contributes as well. We have full faith in this team. However, when the opposing team plays well, as Punjab Kings did, we must acknowledge their strong and impressive cricket.”

Batting first after losing the toss, Punjab Kings scored a massive 254 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs. Priyansh Arya delivered a stellar performance, scoring 93 runs off 37 balls, including 4 fours and 9 sixes. Cooper Connolly also showcased his form with 87 runs off 46 balls. Meanwhile, Marcus Stoinis contributed 29 runs off 16 balls, and Shashank Singh added 17 runs. For LSG, Prince Yadav took 2 wickets for 25 runs, while Mohammad Shami and Mohsin each claimed one wicket.

Chasing the daunting target of 255 runs, the Lucknow Super Giants managed only 200 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their 20 overs. Rishabh Pant was the top scorer for his team, making 43 runs off 23 balls. Adam Markram followed closely with 42 runs off 22 balls, while Mitchell Marsh added 40 runs off 28 balls. For Punjab, Marco Jansen was the standout bowler, taking 2 wickets for 37 runs, with Arshdeep Singh, Vijaykumar Vaishak, and Yuzvendra Chahal each taking one wicket.
