Varun Chakravarthy: We Are Here to Compete, Not Just Participate

Kolkata, April 19: In an exhilarating match on Sunday, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured a 4-wicket victory against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. KKR’s spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who took 3 wickets for just 14 runs in 4 overs, was named ‘Player of the Match’. He emphasized that his team is not just here to participate this season.

The match, held at Eden Gardens, saw Rajasthan Royals score 155 runs while losing 9 wickets. In response, KKR chased down the target in 19.4 overs, marking their first win of the season after five losses and one rain-affected match.

After the victory, Chakravarthy expressed his relief, stating, “It feels great. First, I want to credit the entire coaching staff, as the past few weeks have been tough. The results haven’t gone our way, and there has been a lot of talk outside, but the head coach and the rest of the staff kept us focused. We stuck to our process, so this win belongs to everyone.”

He added, “The pitch today was a bit slow, which worked in our favor. I was injured in the early matches, with two fractures in my left hand, and I am still managing it. It’s not easy, but I am playing.”

The ‘Player of the Match’ concluded, “We don’t know where we will end up, but we want to send a message that we are not here just to participate. We came to win every match and make a strong claim for the trophy. We still have hope and will perform better going forward.”

With this win, KKR has climbed to the 9th position in the points table. They will face Lucknow Super Giants in their next match on April 26.
