Durban, April 19: India faced its second consecutive defeat against South Africa in the T20 series. After falling behind 0-2 in the five-match series, Team India is focused on making a comeback. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur acknowledged that the team did not perform well in the last 10 overs of their innings and emphasized the need for strategic adjustments in the upcoming matches.
Opening batswoman Shefali Verma scored 57 runs in her 100th T20 international match. However, the middle-order collapse left India restricted to 147 runs. Poor bowling and fielding allowed South Africa to chase down the target with 17 balls to spare.
Following the loss, Kaur stated, “I believe we did not contribute to our batting as we wanted. We did not perform well in the last 10 overs. We need to think about how we will play in the next three matches. The powerplay phase is not going in our favor. It’s a tough time, and as a team, we need to stay united.”
Kaur also suggested that improving strike rotation could have mitigated the middle-order slump. She remarked, “When your shots aren’t connecting, rotating the strike becomes crucial. We discussed that rotating the strike could help us get through tough times, but it was a moment when things didn’t go our way. Shefali has been a fantastic talent for us, an aggressive batsman. We hope she continues to perform like this for us.”
Discussing the upcoming third match in Johannesburg, Harmanpreet said, “It’s a new venue, and we hope to step onto the field with a positive mindset. The T20 format requires us to stay united.”
