D.K. Shivakumar Accuses Assam BJP of Corruption Ahead of Assembly Elections

Bengaluru, March 28: Ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister and senior Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar has made serious allegations against the BJP, claiming significant changes are needed in the state.

Speaking to the media at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, Shivakumar stated that corruption has surged in Assam under BJP rule over the past decade, causing distress among the public. He accused the party of failing to fulfill promises made during the last elections, leading to widespread dissatisfaction and a demand for change.

The All India Congress Committee has appointed Shivakumar as a senior observer for the Assam elections. He mentioned that he will be traveling to Assam for campaign activities, in addition to visiting Kerala and overseeing by-elections in Karnataka.

Targeting the Assam government, Shivakumar asserted that the state’s administration has completely collapsed. He noted that there has been no substantial development for the public in the last decade. Recent cabinet reshuffles have revealed internal discord within the Assam BJP.

Shivakumar claimed that no leader within the party is satisfied, and many workers feel overlooked. He stated, “BJP leaders believe they are not being given opportunities within the party, which is fueling discontent.”

Criticizing Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s government, he alleged that all ministers have exploited the state, causing significant hardships for the common people over the past ten years. He pointed out that promises related to caste and land issues remain unfulfilled.

He further claimed that after the release of the candidate list, there is considerable controversy and discontent within the BJP. He remarked that there is infighting within the party, and no one is satisfied. Shivakumar expressed confidence that there is a wave against the ruling party in Assam, with the public yearning for change.

On reports of former Assam Congress president Bhupen Borah joining the BJP, Shivakumar quipped that if the BJP were truly strong, it wouldn’t need to recruit Congress leaders. He asserted that after Borah’s move, not a single worker accompanied him, indicating the BJP’s weakening grip ahead of the elections.
