Crackdown on Drug Trafficking in Jharkhand: Four Arrested with Brown Sugar

Ranchi, June 2: The police campaign against drug trafficking in Jharkhand is intensifying. In separate operations in the Godda and Chatra districts, authorities have arrested four traffickers with brown sugar valued at millions.

On Tuesday, Sunil Kumar Singh, the DSP of Chatra, reported that a special team was formed following a tip-off about the sale and purchase of brown sugar near Japua Maidan in the Giddhor police station area. Under the leadership of Circle Officer Anant Shayanam Vishwakarma and Station Officer Purushottam Agnihotri, the team conducted a raid and apprehended the suspect, identified as Deepak Kumar, a resident of Japua.

Authorities seized 44 grams of brown sugar and a mobile phone from the accused. According to police, the confiscated brown sugar is worth approximately nine lakh rupees. During the investigation, WhatsApp chats and images found on the mobile phone were collected as evidence.

Meanwhile, in Godda district, police arrested three individuals near Pratappur Hatiya with 2.78 grams of brown sugar. The arrested suspects are Satyajit Paswan (19), Gaurav Kumar (22), and Bal Mukund Sah (40), all residents of Khatnai.

DSP Akash Bhardwaj stated that Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar received information about individuals gathering on the road from Khatnai to Amadakamat for the sale and consumption of brown sugar. Based on this information, a special raiding team was formed.

The team successfully apprehended the three suspects near Pratappur Hatiya. During the search, they found 2.78 grams of brown sugar packed in 20 pouches, along with a cigarette packet and a matchbox. In both cases, FIRs have been registered under the NDPS Act, and the suspects have been sent to judicial custody.
